Board & Officers

John is a native of Glasgow in Scotland. He started his career in production and sales with   I.C.I. Ltd, a multi-national chemical company, before becoming a minister of the Church of Scotland.

In 1993 he transferred to the PC(USA) and has served congregations in California, Arkansas, Florida, Maryland and finally Illinois. 

John is now happily enjoying retirement in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Keeping busy by occasionally filling the pulpit at local vacant churches; being a school group Docent at Milwaukee Art Museum; volunteering one half day a week at a local nonprofit and, through Zoom, continuing involvement with various Community Members, Associates and committees.

Klein

William Klein – Secretary – PCUSA pastor,   Associate Member of Iona Community for over 30 years..   Staff member on islands and Glasgow in 1970’s.  Lexington, VA.

Rev. Deana Shultz Lowe, Treasurer – Rev. Deana Lowe is a pastor in the United Methodist Church. In addition to pastoral ministry, she works in areas of diversity and anti-racism, women’s concerns, disability ministries, environmental concerns, and beautification. She is an associate member living in North Texas. 

Phyllis Ives – Phyllis’s working career was in marketing, strategic planning, and capital campaign counseling to nonprofit organizations in the northeast United States. She spent time at the Iona Abbey as a residential volunteer, became an Associate Member in 2013 and started working on the Capital Appeal team. Surrounded by family, including five grandchildren, she lives in Pemaquid Harbor, Maine and enjoys hiking, sailing, skiing, skating and pickle ball. 

Katharine Preston – writer, studied anthropology as an undergraduate at Brandeis University, learning from some Indigenous cultures in present-day America about the place of humans in the natural world. She also has a Master’s in Forest Science and a Master’s of Divinity.  She and her husband, John Bingham, live in Essex, New York and are active associates of the Iona Community
