Our Strategy

Uniquely Qualified to Lead & Convene

With America’s coastlines increasingly impacted by more frequent flooding and more intense coastal storms, expanding our nation’s coastal resilience is critical now more than ever.

The National Wildlife Federation has demonstrated success at facilitating landscape-scale conservation efforts through convening and leading coalitions of on-the-ground practitioners, and by advancing Federal and State policies that support sustainable coastal management. This core differentiator allows us to increase the scope, efficiency and effectiveness of conservation investments.

In the crowded field of coastal resiliency enhancement, the National Wildlife Federation plays a critical role aligning disparate activities, advancing integrated and holistic approaches through cross-sector and non-traditional stakeholder engagement, and emphasizing cost effective strategies that maximize co-benefit outcomes.

A Three-Tiered Approach

Advocate for Policy Change: Our deep federal policy experience working with federal agencies and both sides of the congressional aisle makes us the right advocate to affect strategic policy changes and secure federal resources to protect and restore coastal habitats.

Protect and Restore Through Innovation: Our innovative regional resilience model will be implemented across high-priority geographies along the Atlantic Coast. Our holistic approach reduces community risk and enhances ecological resilience by implementing a multi-prong strategy including site assessment and analysis, on-the-ground restoration, community adaptation planning, and modeling future conditions.

Embody Equity & Justice: We are dedicated to equitable and just outcomes across all our programmatic work, including equitable access to natural infrastructure approaches and removing the barriers that frontline communities face.

Where We Work

More than one-third of U.S. fish and wildlife species are at risk of extinction in the coming decades. The National Wildlife Federation is on the ground in seven regions across the country, collaborating with 53 state and territory affiliates to reverse the crisis and ensure wildlife thrive.
