Board Chair

John loves wildlife and the outdoors. Seeing wildlife of all types thriving in their natural surroundings brings him joy. He is a passionate conservationist and outdoorsperson. His outdoors interests include fishing, paddling of all types, hiking, birds, scuba diving, maintaining his pollinator garden and more.

John has served on the NWF Board since 2017, and was elected Vice-Chair in 2019. He participated actively in the development of the current NWF Strategic Plan in 2016-17, and played a lead role with Mamie Parker, other board members and the great NWF Environmental Justice team in developing the Creating Safe Spaces series of webinars in 2020-2021. His deep prior board and business experience have enabled him to contribute across a number of the NWF Board Committees and initiatives.

John serves on a number of nonprofit conservation-oriented boards including the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, where he was Chair from 2014-2016. He has served as chair of several. His previous board experience includes the Worldwatch Institute, NC Sound Economy, and Population Connection among others. He is proud of his previous role on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters for the Greater Charlotte area, where he founded the BBBS organization in his then-home of Cabarrus County outside Charlotte.

John retired in 2002 from Accenture, the global strategy, technology and outsourcing firm, after a 28-year career. He was promoted to Partner in 1985 and a Managing Partner in 1991. His role at retirement was Chief Operating Officer for Resources Global Market Unit, one of Accenture’s five global market units.
