Families and Guardians

EcoSchools U.S. isn’t just for teachers and students – it’s for families and guardians too!

Parents, families, and guardians are an important part of a strong and resilient action team. There are many ways parents’, families, and guardians’ diverse skill sets and expertise can benefit their child’s EcoSchools program, including:

  • Becoming a member of the Action Team: Parents, families, and  guardians can collaborate with teachers and students to create and implement an environment-based action plan for their child’s school.
  • Assisting with school gardens and landscaping: Helping to manage food and pollinator gardens, especially in the summer months, is a vital role to fill.
  • Researching or writing funding applications: For projects large and small, parents, family members, and guardians can help with researching and writing funding applications for everything from gardening supplies and native plants and trees, to waste and recycling receptacles and field trips.
  • Boosting school-based actions with at-home support: Many EcoSchools actions are most effective when families and guardians get involved. Actions like waste-free lunches and pollinator gardens are great examples of how you can boost your child’s learning opportunities and lend support.
  • Delivering workshops: You can help lead or assist with Eco-Schools related workshops.
  • Sharing EcoSchools goals and news: The simple act of sharing Action Team goals and news can help foster support and interest in the school community.
